Call for Application: 18th Baku Summer Energy School

The Institute for Development and Diplomacy of ADA University in partnership with the ADA University Foundation, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), KOLİN Azerbaijan and GL organizes the 18th Baku Summer Energy School on July 8-19, 2024. The BSES 2024 will take place during July 8-16, 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan and July 18-19, 2024 in Georgia. This is the second internationally held BSES.

The two-week certificate program brings together world-renowned scholars, practitioners, and policy makers to examine and gain a better understanding of global and Caspian energy and environmental issues. Besides the regional pipeline and energy security developments, participants will become acquainted with a wide range of issues such as fundamentals of energy, energy law and economics, environmental issues, climate change, management in oil and gas industry, carbon capture and sequestration, as well as the strategic outlook of SOCAR and BP. During the second week of the summer school which will be held in Georgia, the participants will get regional perspective on energy issues as well.

The Baku Summer Energy School provides ample opportunity to meet and network with public and private sector leaders from all over the world. Participants will have a chance to discuss challenging issues with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Energy, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, who will be key speakers along with executives of leading energy companies such as SOCAR, BP, Masdar, GL, Equinor and many others.

The program also serves as unique travel opportunity to the South Caucasus.

Upon completion of the program, participants will be awarded certificates signed by the Rector of ADA University and the President of SOCAR.

The Baku Summer Energy School studies a wide range of issues:

  •  Geopolitics of Energy and Climate Change
  •  Renewables
  •  Sustainable Development
  •  Environmental Issues

A special focus of the program is on the Caspian Basin, including regional cooperation for climate change and reducing GHG emissions, geopolitics of the Caspian and its legal status, and the strategic outlook of SOCAR.

Eligibility

In order to be considered eligible to apply, you must fulfill all of the following criteria:

BSES is organized for both national and international specialists dealing with energy and environment related issues:

  • Mid-career professionals from energy companies
  • Policy-makers and civil servants from governmental institutions, embassies and international organizations
  • Scholars/journalists/graduate students focusing their research on energy and environmental issues

Costs

Tuition fee for the 2024 Baku Summer Energy School is 3, 000 USD. The fee includes teaching materials, local transportation, and extra-curricular activities, including field trips, luncheons and a welcome reception. Participants must cover their own international travel and accommodation costs.

Application

Application process is fast, free and secure. Incomplete applications, as well as applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered. Applicants will be able to track their admission status via the application system.

During the application process, you will be required to provide:

  • Resume in English (that shows your (1) educational background; (2) employment history; (3) academic awards and (4) extracurricular activities
  • Recent photo (size: 5 x 5 cm)
  • Passport and ID. (For international participants, passport is enough; for locals, please also provide the national ID)

Application deadline is April 1, 2024.

The shortlisted candidates will be contacted by April 30, 2024 for further steps.
